It's great to be back to school for the last half of the year. It's hard to believe we're halfway through another year already.
The RISE students from KMHS (mentor program) have been trained and placed in classrooms and our students at Hayes were thrilled to see them back. They all received special welcomes from the girls and boys.
We are in the process of placing several volunteers from the Kiwanis Club who want to come in once a week and help out in the classrooms and we have a couple of community volunteers who come in a couple of times a week and help out in math compacting. If you would like to volunteer in some capacity, please let me know and I'm sure we can find a place for you to feel right at home! :-)
This past Holiday season we were very active in the community through the delivering of Thanksgiving Baskets and our annual Shop With a Mustang program. We took over 100 of our students to The Avenue at West Cobb for a shopping spree on December 2nd. Many thanks to Heidleberg USA for donating wrapping paper to wrap all of the gifts purchased at The Avenue. We'd also like to thank Chick-fil-a at Barrett Pkwy, Dallas Hwy, and Cobb Pkwy in Acworth for their generous donations of chicken biscuits to feed 500 children and mentors. What an awesome experience it was to be a part of.
In Guidance this winter we will be covering topics of bullying, test taking, stranger danger, and of course preparing our 5th graders to make the big move to middle school. Before you know it May will be here and we will be telling our 5th graders good-bye for the last time. We are currently coordinating groups for Rainbows support. If your child could benefit from a loss/separation support group, please tell them to tell their teacher to submit their name for a Rainbows group.
As always, if you would like for me to speak with your child for any reason, please let me know or have your child stop by and see me. I am always happy to spend time with my students.
